Two New Obsessions

It's pretty dang easy for me to become obsessed about stuff. It's a part of my personality. But I have two things I am most obsessed with right now.

Pinterest

Oh. My. Gosh. Do you know about Pinterest??? It is virtual eye candy 24/7. How I explain it is like this....when I was a kid (long before computers...you know, in the Stone Age), I would cut out pictures of things I loved from magazines and pin them to a corkboard. Pinterest is that came concept...only virtually! So, you can be surfing the web, and come across some fabulous recipe, or outfit, or home decor idea, or party idea, and "Pin" it to a board on your Pinterest page. (I have 26 different boards). You then "pin" a picture to your board, and that is saved, along with a link to where you originally found it. It's kind of like having your "Favorites" but with pictures! It's seriously so much fun.

What I spend most of my time doing is seeing what other people pin (people I "follow" and just random other people) and "re-pin" what they have pinned. It's a great way to get ideas for just about anything. You have to be invited to join (so exclusive LOL), so if you are interested, let me know and I'll send you an invite!

iPhone 4

Oh yes, I ditched my Blackberry, and switched to an iPhone. I. Am. In. Love. I had no idea how amazing this phone was until I started using it. What kept me from trying it sooner was I was afraid I wouldn't be able to text. Well, let me tell you, I am a very proficient texter. :) I can do so much from my phone! All of my emails (and I have A LOT of emails), answer my Etsy convos, check the TomKat blog, Facebook, Pinterest. Also, my scriptures are with me at all times! Fabulous! The camera is great, and there are some great photo editing apps available. I'm sure I don't need to sell the iPhone. Just wanted to put it in writing that I am officially in love.

I'm Coming Back....

Really? February is my last post??? That's just sad! Caitlin is constantly asking me when I'm going to update my blog. "Soon" is always my reply. This is my JOURNAL. The record of my life and my kids lives! I MUST BLOG! So, I'm coming back. I've been putting it off because as each day, week, then month passed by, I felt more and more overwhelmed about what I would write about! So, I'm going to put that guilt aside, do a quick update, and then forge on! Good??

Ok....so let's see...let's start in March. My baby girl Caitlin turned 12! That's a big deal because turning 12 means leaving Primary and entering Young Women! She loves YW, and especially LOVED Girls' Camp! We were a little concerned about how she would do because she has the tendency to get homesick....just like her mama. (Did I ever tell you I was called as a YW Leader to be a cabin mom at Girls' Camp but I came home early? Yep, I did....because I was homesick. Homesick at 23. Pathetic.) But she went, and thanks to some great Cabin Moms, a wonderful big sis, and some great friends, she did FANTASTIC!

She called me each night before bed (probably wasn't supposed to do that, but I was able to make special arrangements. Thanks Sister Alger) and she said to me one night, through tears "Mom...I really like it up here. The Spirit is so strong." Just what a mama wants to hear! They both had a great time and are looking forward to next year.

Oh, you might notice the difference in hair length from the first picture to the second picture. Yep, they both WHACKED their hair! Caitlin cut 9 inches, and Courtney cut 11! Adorable!

Here are the girls right after their hair cut with sweet Emmett. This little guy is a fighter!!! He has been battling the effect of swallowing a button battery for over a year now. Those batteries are so dangerous! Please read more about him at Emmett's Fight!

Ok, that's all for now! I have a whole list in my phone (my new iPhone, that is my new love, and I will be blogging about her later) that I will finally get to write about!

It's been too long. Glad to be back.

It Never Hurts to Ask

One thing I have learned in my 40 years on this earth is "It Never Hurts to Ask".  Are you ever afraid to ask for something?  What are you afraid of?  The worst that can happen if you will get "no" for an answer, and what's wrong with that? At least you tried!

Learning to ask for what I wanted has gotten me lots of fun stuff in my life.  For instance, it got me a kiss FULL on the LIPS from one hunky Mark Mirenda.  You can read that lovely story here.  It landed me one hot hubby.  You can read that loonnnnggggg story here.  It got me second row, center seats to the Oprah Winfrey Show after 10 years of trying.  (I need to write that story someday....).  It helped me to get amazing auction items donated for the Golden WHEEL Organization, which in turn helped us to raise tens of thousand of dollars for some well deserving youth.  It also led me to fulfill a dream of meeting my main man, Mr. Andre Agassi.  Please, revisit that story here.  But just for fun...I'm including a picture or two or
three.....

Still gives me goosebumps.  I'm sure he remembers it too....

It also helped me land the most AMAZING JOB I could have ever imagined or hoped for. (Can I just insert here that Kim, my "boss" is the most creative, giving, generous person I know?? I'm so fortunate to KNOW her the way I do. It's a pleasure to "go to work" each day.)

So, what did I ask for this time?

Well......

While in NYC, we had a chance to go to a taping of the Martha Stewart Show.  Let me also insert that this was a dream come true for Kim.  Martha is her Andre.....well....you know what I mean.  Anyway, at the end of the show, after the taping was over, the audience was allowed to ask some questions. I had a question in mind. Kim had no idea of this. They allowed two questions, and then after the second question was answered, they said "Ok, last question". I raised my hand high like a kid in school....but they didn't pick me. Darn it! The last question was asked and answered. In that split second, I thought "What the heck!" and I raised my hand again......"I have a question!"  To my shock....to the the shock of the other members of the audience, they handed me the microphone. "Here's my shot!" I thought.  I went down something like this:

"Hi Martha!"  Yep, I was speaking directly to Martha Stewart. "I'm Toni from Arizona.  How do you get your guests for your shows?"

Martha went on to say that most shows have "themes", like the next show they were filming was about woodworking....I didn't really hear much of what she was saying because something else was floating my brain. And what was that thought???  IT NEVER HURTS TO ASK!! So, when it came back to me, I said to Martha....."Ok...well, do you see that woman? (And I pointed to Kim who was sitting a few seats away from me, and was just as shocked that I was speaking to Martha as the rest of the audience was.) "That is Kim from The TomKat Studio, and she NEEDS to be on your show!".  Yep, I said it.  There was a collective gasp in the audience. I'm sure that was a mixture of "What is Martha going to say to that?" and "Why didn't I think of that" to "I cannot believe she has the guts to ask such a question!!! Rude!" Much to my surprise, Martha turned to Kim and asked what she did. I handed the microphone to my pretty boss lady, and she replied with "I am a party stylist, and have a party blog".  Martha said "Well, we are doing a show on entertaining and we would love to have you on the show! Give your information to our producer" and with that a pretty young woman whisked over to Kim.

I sat down. I had followed the advice I had given myself for so long. It took some guts, and I was nervous as heck. But, I figured, WHY NOT ASK? What was the WORST that could happen? And let me say, Miss Martha was very lovely about it.

Some people may think that was rude to ask. Or that maybe I took the focus off of why we were there, and thrust it onto Kim. But you know what? I don't care!  Because I can guarantee you that each person there was kicking themself for not asking that question for themself. I had several people say to me "You need to be in PR!" or "Kim owes you a bonus/raise!" But I didn't think either of those. I KNOW that Kim possesses the talent to be on that show. And we have thousands of readers of our blog that agree with me. She has a lot to share and teach, and the Martha Show is the PERFECT place to do that.

And let me also state, that my bold move inspired another friend of mine to action! She asked someone to invest in her business, and guess what....they said YES! See, it doesn't hurt to ask!

So, they next time you find yourself asking "Should I? What will they say??", throw those doubts and fears out the WINDOW and just GO FOR IT!  What have you got to lose?

NYC 2011

Well, I did it again.  Made an escape to my favorite city.  This time, it was a little different.  It was a "business trip".  I try to say that without giggling because it WAS for business, and I still have to pinch myself sometimes that I'm in this "party world".  I love it each and every day.

The trip started out with a little bit of adventure!  And I'm not talking about the 5:30 am arrival to the airport.  No, I'm talking about the FULL BODY PAT DOWN that I received at the airport!  Yep, that's right folks.  Our lovely TSA workers singled me out to go through the full body scanner.  And then after determining that I had to many "anomalies", they requested a female to give me a full body pat down.  Let me tell you, I have not been touched like that by anyone other than my hubby in 18 years!  LOL  It was quite an experience....

Our flight was quick, and before we knew it we were landing in NYC!  A quick and crazy taxi ride later, and we arrived at the Doubletree Chelsea hotel.  We headed out to Time Square, to see the lights, and got a quick bite of NYC pizza - nothing better.  We stayed up a little too late that night as some of the other "party girls" arrived, and were staying on our floor.  We stayed up chatting like school girls.  One of the girls dubbed us the 7th Floor Cheer Camp.

Kim & I in Time Square

We ended up sleeping in a little later than we should have Monday morning, but eventually Andrea & I headed out to see some of the city.  (Kim stayed back to do some work and had an impromptu photo shoot of our swag bags in the hotel room!)  Andrea and I walked around Rockefeller Center & then up to Central Park.  I took some pictures of areas of the park that I had just visited in April with Wendy, except this time it was covered in snow!  Cold, but stunning.

And again, my favorite fountain.....OFF!  I've been to this fountain 4 times and have never seen water flowing from it.  Maybe my next trip.....in October!

That's all for now.....more to come later in the week!

Year in Review

So, I had these grand ideas to do a Year in Review post, but yea, it's already the 4th, and I haven't had the time. So, to make it simple, I'm using this.

This is from Facebook and it's a collection of my statuses from 2010.  I thought it was pretty hilarious.

But a quick recap of my 2010.............

My New Job (which has caused my lack of blog posting, but I'm really going to try to change that!!), my 40th birthday and awesome party to celebrate it, my trip to NYC, our family vacation to San Diego, Girls' Camp, watching my kids become young adults, Hugh's remodel of the girls' room (need to post pictures soon!), birth of my newest niece, Claire, having Emmi say my name clear as a bell "TONI!!" (love it!), lots of love and fun times with family and friends.  Ok!  I guess that's it!!!

Love you all, and I hope to make a weekly appearance here.  I promise.

Family Pictures 2010, among other things....

I know...don't have a heart attack.  I'm actually writing on my blog.  I should be sending out my Christmas cards, and wrapping presents, and baking....but I keep having this nagging feeling to update some things around here!  And by "here", I mean my poor, neglected blog.

For an update....things are busy, busy, busy.  We've spent the first two days of break at one appointment or another.  Then running kids all over the place.  What kind of "break" is that???  I want to sleep in and do things around the house!  Geez!!

The girls' room is 90% finished and it looks incredible.  I have 5 boxes of junk that needs to be gone through, and I'll hopefully get it down to one box of semi-junk.  I'll post before/after pics once it's totally finished.  Hugh did an amazing job.

Work is great.  How can it NOT be great when I'm getting a trip to NYC for Christmas from my fabulous boss??  TomKat Studio has some big projects in the works, and they will all be revealed in due time.  Kim, Andrea & I leave for NYC on January 16 and I can't wait!!!

Speaking of Andrea, she took our family photos this year and did such a fantastic job!  Here are some of my favorites.

TomKat Studio Holiday Gift Guide (with a special note to Heidi)

My sweet Heidi...I'm sorry you miss me so.  My life is a little topsy turvy at the moment.  I'm a working woman, you know.  But, I promise to be more faithful to my blog so you can keep up with me and the fam. I do miss you to pieces.

Ok....so, this is a little project that I got to help work on.  Kim (my uber fabulous boss lady) created this beautiful gift guide and I was asked to create a page of gift ideas for Tween & Teens. I, of course, enlisted the help of my kiddos, and they were excited to be a part of it.  So, take a peek at this awesome gift guide.  Who knows, you may find something in there that you can't live without!!

I will be back to blogging soon.  I promise.
