It has been a tradition in Hugh's family for YEARS to get together on Christmas Eve Eve. We've been doing it as long as I have been in his family, and it started years before I got here. It used to be that Hugh's mom and all of her sisters (there are four of them) would gather together with their spouses and kids at Grandma & Grandpa Ollerton's house. They would sing some carols, and exchange food gifts - ie. Pam's yummy pumpkin bread and Julie's famous chocolate and peanut butter balls. They would then travel a short distance to Grandad Butler's house and sing carols to him and his dear wife Millie. As time went on, and the grandkids started having kids of their own, we moved the festivities to Aunt Julie & Uncle Craig's house. The list for the recipients of the food gifts grew and we would have to team up to make all that needed to be made. Grandad & Millie passed away. And our family grew out of Julie & Craig's house. A few years ago we moved our party to a church building, and we gave up on giving the gifts. Now, it's a big potluck, and we just eat and enjoy being with family. This year, we had 110 people there. And it continues to amaze me as I look at Grandpa Hugh Ollerton and realize all of the posterity there came from him and his late wife. Amazing. One of my favorite nights of the year.
